Pilates benefits have been touted by everyone from high-level professional athletes to new moms. Whether you are looking for a longer golf drive or the strength to pick up and carry your toddler with no back pain, Pilates will help increase your core strength and flexibility. Many people who do Pilates regularly see improvements in range of motion, flexiblity, posture as well as an increase in abdominal strength.
Mat Pilates vs. Pilates Classes on equipment:
Pilates was developed to be used as a system. For optimal results, both mat and Pilates equipment (reformer, Cadillac, chair) will be used during a session. At FreshAirSports Pilates, our equipment classes do incorporate work on the mat using several props and accessories. Pilates classes on the equipment allows for a full-body workout and more variety during your workout, including arms, legs, glutes and hips...in addition to of course abdominals and back (what we typically refer to as the "core").
From the father of Pilates in 1965:
"I must be right. Never an aspirin. Never injured a day in my life. The whole country, the whole world, should be doing my exercises. They'd be happier." -- Joseph Pilates, age 86.
