› Do I Need A Coach?

Training for a race is a big deal, but it shouldn't be overwhelming! Regardless of the distance you choose, whether you are training for a single-sport race or a triathlon, having someone available to help you structure your training and races around your already busy schedule is something to seriously consider. Hiring a coach to help ensure you are maximizing your potential is the key to many people’s success. Have you ever asked yourself any of these questions?
  • How do I know if I'm over or under training?
  • I have several races on my calendar—how do I peak and taper properly?
  • Should I train through this nasty head cold (substitute any injury here!) or lay low for a few days?
  • Do I need to incorporate weight training into my workout schedule?
  • What should I eat and drink during my race? The choices are overwhelming!
  • I'm racing short distance races today, but want to go long – how do I ramp up my schedule without getting injured?
  • I work full-time and/or have a family – how do I figure out a training schedule and balance my personal life?
  • What do I need to know for my first race?

Have you asked yourself any of these questions? If so, hiring a personal coach is great place to get answers. Heck even coaches hire coaches! Of course, there are some examples of highly successful "self-coached" pro and age group athletes. However, most self-coached athletes readily admit that they rely on others for help with training and racing. Most successful self-coached athletes spent long hours researching the latest books and literature in exercise science, technique, nutrition, sports psychology and numerous other relevant areas. They attend camps and seminars concerning their sport and consult with knowledgeable peers and experts. They are, in effect, doing all of the things an athlete ought to expect from a coach.

The important thing to always remember is that your Race Day is a celebration of the effort put forth over months of training – it shouldn’t be the time to second-guess you fitness or preparedness!

Here's why we think you should hire a FreshAirSports coach.
